Vue d'ensemble de la session

The complexity of laws and jurisdictional issues affecting corporate social responsibility (CSR) is increasing. Lawyers must counsel their clients on a range of CSR topics: business and human rights, anti-corruption, ethical sourcing and  lending, privacy, and non-judicial grievance mechanisms. With the prevalence of cross-border class actions and extraterritorial jurisdiction, the importance of properly advising companies on the range of CSR issues can not be sufficiently stressed.

This series, comprised of a webinar and in-person workshop in Toronto, addresses the framework for international corporate liability and developments in this field. The series will be relevant to both in-house counsel and private practitioners as well as company directors, executives and CSR professionals.

Participants will gain a range of timely and practical information that can be put to immediate use in their practice.

This Webinar with the Honourable Ian Binnie will provide a historical overview of developments in this field, addressing the Alien Tort Claims Act, the Ruggie Framework/Principles, soft-law approaches, range of civil and criminal remedies, limitations to dealing with corporations criminally, barriers to enforcement of foreign judgments and other topics. Read more here.
Length: 60 minutes.

We recommend you also register for the video recording of our three-hour in-person workshop in Toronto facilitated by The Hon. Ian BinnieDavid I.W. HamerCarol Hansell and Prof. Errol Mendes who probed deeper into the issues explored in the webinar and offer participants the opportunity to discuss case studies.
