J. Grant Sinclair has served as Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, part-time member, and chief mediator of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal (CHRT). Since his initial appointment in 1989, he participated in over 100 adjudications under the Canadian Human Rights Act. An expert in Civil Litigation, Mr. Sinclair started at Lang Michener, LLP (eventually becoming Partner) where he also served as federal arbitrator of contract disputes. He has taught at Queens University Law School and Osgoode Hall Law School, and Edinburgh University. As General Counsel for the federal Department of Justice, Mr. Sinclair advised on how Canada’s then-fledgling Charter of Rights and Freedoms would affect legislation and represented governmental departments and agencies in matters involving human rights and Charter challenges. Mr. Sinclair received a LL.B from Osgoode Hall Law School and a LL.M at Yale University.
