David I.W. Hamer is a senior partner in our Litigation Group. He is Co-Chair and founder of the firm’s Global Mining Litigation Practice Group, and was first Co-Chair of the firm’s National Class Actions Practice Group. He recently completed his term as an elected member of the firm’s national Board of Partners.
Mr. Hamer is a graduate of Oxford University, which he attended as a Rhodes Scholar, and holds undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Toronto.
Mr. Hamer is a trial and appellate advocate with experience before all levels of court up to the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as a wide variety of administrative tribunals. His current civil litigation practice includes mining disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, class actions defence, general commercial disputes, product liability claims, and professional liability. Throughout his career he has had extensive involvement in complex litigation involving expert evidence in technical subject areas ranging from mining geology and engineering, through leading-edge medical science to financial and economic analysis of business issues.
Mr. Hamer has a ‘Most Frequently Recommended’ listing in the 2014 edition of The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, a guide to the leading law firms and practitioners in Canada. He is also listed in the 2014/15 edition of Lexpert’s Leading Canadian Lawyers in Global Mining Directory and in the 2015 edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada.
